Buying a property in Turkey - My Experience

Having read about the potential of the property market in Turkey, I organised my first visit independently to Turkey in October 2006, with my 'first visit' being my first time in Turkey.

I had a flight to Bodrum and had arranged through a friend to stay in Altinkum with the intention of viewing properties for sale.

During my short stay I visited many 'building sites' and quite honestly was not overly impressed with the quality of build or finish, except for one special apartment block.

The prices of properties ranged from as low £15000 for a 1 bedroom apartment up to £65000 for a 4 bedroom Duplex.

The apartment block that attracted my attention was of high build quality and high specification, but being out in Turkey independently, on this short stay property search did mean that I had no idea of the procedure for purchasing property.

On my last night in Altinkum on my way back to the hotel after a long day of viewing properties, I stopped to look in an estate agents window, in which I viewed the apartment block that had attracted my attention.

Stepping into the agency was the best move I had made on this short trip.

The agency was Turkish Connextions with an office in Altinkum and one in Preston, England.

This gave me even more confidence in considering a purchase.

Immediately, on meeting the owners of the business Jayne and Izzy, being to feel welcome and having the procedures explained and viewings arranged, I was confident enough to leave a deposit on the Duplex apartment I had been interested in.

Since that point I have visited Turkey on two more occasions (March 2007) and have moved into the apartment now fully furnished. All arrangements were made by Turkish Connextions, that is; flights, transfers to and from the airport in Turkey, furnishing the apartment, and general knowledge and sites of the area.

Jayne, Izzy and Naci, the brother of Izzy, are always there to help. I have experienced no problems, and no anxieties, everything has been explained and all situations sorted.

I like many work for a living and spending hard earned money has to be done wisely. Obviously investing in Turkey, one has to be sure that the investment is sound.

I could not recommend enough to people to ensure legality that a company like Turkish Connextions has to be used, for the professionalism, experience and from my point of view 'piece of mind'.

On a personal note I have known Jayne and Izzy since October 2006, their friendly nature as endeared them to both myself and my wife Jacqueline, and we look forward to many years of enjoyment and friendship.
