Letter from Turkey - Part 1

"We decided we would like to purchase a property abroad for our retirement. We had never been to Turkey before. A friend of ours put us in touch with a couple who had just bought a villa in Altinkum."

"With such a large amount of money being involved we wanted to deal with a British company to help us. They gave us the phone number of Turkish Connextions. We rang Jayne and she sent us some brochures at the price range we could afford."

"We went over in May for four days. First day she took us to look at villas and duplexes. We instantly fell in love with a four bedroom duplex, even though it was not finished. We decided to buy it the next day. In the morning we met with the builder and lawyer and drew up a contract. We had one copy in English and one in Turkish. We paid a deposit there and then, everything was explained to us perfectly."

"When we returned home we sent Jayne the rest of the deposit. She goes to Altinkum every month and she kept in touch with us all the time to let us know how things were going. In July about a month before completion we sent her a cheque for the rest of the money including the lawyers fee, water and electric. When she went over to Turkey she had the deeds and brought them back with her and sent them to us recorded delivery."

"On October 17th my sister-in-law and myself came over for a week to part furnish the place. On the Tuesday in the morning we went to the furniture shop. I bought a bedroom suite, three piece suite, coffee table and television unit. These were to be delivered on the Friday, except the three piece suite, we had the rest of the day free. On Tuesday we went to the electric shop where I bought a washing machine, fridge, television and DVD player, again we had the rest of the day free. On Wednesday morning Jayne took us to the hardware shop where I bought all our household items and then we went to the lighting shop to pick all our lights. On Thursday morning Jayne took us to Soke to pick all our curtains. Again we had all afternoon and evening free. Our curtains could not be made until the following week so Jayne would have to see to them being put in. On the Friday all our furniture was delivered except for the three piece suite. All our electrical items were delivered and installed where I wanted them. Our hardware stuff arrived and the electrician came to put all our lights in. By 5 o�clock that night everything was in except our three piece suite and curtains."

"We arrived back in England on the Sunday. Jayne got in touch with me two weeks later, the curtains had been fitted and the three piece suite had arrived. She sent me some photos, it looked very nice."

"On January 20th 2005 we decided we would move over here for six months. Since coming over Jayne has been brilliant, we have sorted out a bank account and the doctors. If we have any problems they are only a phone call away."
