Turkey is Off The Red List – Here Come the Tourists!

There was some very positive news for Turkey earlier this week as it was finally confirmed by the UK Government that from the 22nd September, it was off the ‘Red List’ and onto the ‘Amber List’, meaning that visitors will no longer need to self-isolate on their return, as long as they’ve been double vaccinated, and get the day 2 test, which overall will save thousands of pounds.

For a major holiday destination, which usually receives over 2m British Tourists per year, it’s been extremely hard on the businesses which rely on this level of tourism, on those who own a holiday home here, and on those purely wishing to see family and friends.

To put it into perspective, between January and July of this year only 85,000 UK citizens visited Turkey, which is well below the 2019 figure of 1.4 million, so, it’s no wonder that since the news was released, operators such as Jet2 have seen a huge increase in bookings for October through to the end of year, especially during the half term school break. The hope now is that around 200,000 people will arrive.

Estate Agents in Turkey also suffered heavily as a result of Turkey being on the Red List, as those who wanted to purchase property here couldn’t travel… however, that has also now changed and people are free to buy dream homes here again. Of course, if you’d like help on buying, Turkish Connextions would love to be a part of that journey – please contact us, and let’s have a chat!
