Fethiye is located within the Turquoise Coast in the south western Mediterranean of Turkey and is built over the ruins of what used to be the ancient city of Telmessos, whose ancient theater is still located right in the city centre.
The whole region excluding Fethiye and Esen lowlands is covered with high mountains forming the south-western peaks of the Taurus mountain range. These mountains exceed over 2000 meters in height and extend all along the coastline. Lying at the foot of these mountains, looking out over a sheltered bay is the traditional town of Fethiye.
Fethiye is a city and a district within the Aegean region of Turkey with about 75,000 inhabitants and is now the centre of one of the primary holiday destinations in Turkey.
As a location itself, Fethiye is a busy working town with its fantastic marinas and harbour with many boats, it is surrounded by some of Turkey's most beautiful beaches and offers a variety of delicious cuisine. Right in the middle of the city is a fantastic fish market, it is a very popular place to enjoy a meal in the evening.
There are many great places to see in Fethiye. If you love history then why not take a visit to the Fethiye Museum, it is filled with many interesting artifacts from the Persians, Greeks and Romans.
Another amazing place to explore is Butterfly Valley, which is only accessible by boat. Spend a day here and see if you can find the different species of butterfly that live here, there are hundreds. This makes a lovely trip out with its beautiful beach and steep cliffs overlooking the sea, the view is incredible.
Fethiye is surrounded by a unique cluster of other popular holiday destinations – each is incredibly different yet only 15 minutes apart.
CALIS offers so much. There are lovely shops, cafes, great bars and restaurants, beaches, as well as all other local amenities. Calis Beach makes a great day out as it offers a great selection of water sports for all the family to enjoy and if you are just looking to sit back and relax in the sunshine then there are many sun loungers available. The beach also enjoys a children's playground and a surf club.
HISARONU is neighbor to the small village of Ovacik. The resort is lively and bustling with lovely shops and great bars and restaurants. There is a market held here on a Monday selling fresh fruit and veg and lots of leather and textile bargains. You can catch the local bus from Hisaronu down to Oludeniz.
OLU DENIZ, the world famous resort with its award winning Blue Lagoon, where you can see paragliders land from jumping off Babada straight onto the beach. With its white sandy beaches and turquoise waters this spectacular resort is truly one of the most breathtaking areas to see.
OVACIK is a small village adjoining the holiday resort of Hisaronu. Ovacik is a lovely friendly village spread out across the valley. It offers stunning scenic views, a variety of local amenities in the village centre and offers peaceful residential living. The lively Hisaronu village centre can easily be accessed within a few minutes via the local Dolmus minibuses that run every 5 minutes in the season.
UZUMLU is set in a beautiful valley surrounded by forests and hillsides. Uzumlu is renowned for the production of wine, numerous vineyards surround the village. The village has been able to retain all of its natural charm and character. The modern town of Fethiye is situated just a 20 minute drive away.
Each resort offers its own character with their weekly markets, restaurants, fish market and boutiques a must for adventure that should never be missed.
Whilst in other holiday resorts life quietens down at the end of the summer season, life in Fethiye bustles on throughout the year due to its abundance of fertile land, agriculture is the main source of income alongside tourism.

International Children's Festival - This popular, vibrant festival hosts children from various countries and celebrates the diversity of Fethiye as well as Turkey. The event lasts over a week and performances by the students take place in various locations around the city (April - date to confirmed)
International Fethiye World Music Festival - This annual event brings together musicians from all over the world. The festival is open to everyone (May - date to confirmed)
Cal A+A Carnival - This event will last a week long and will end with a two day carnival. There will be lots of activities held throughout the week as well as a celebration and display of Turkish cuisine and street food, handicrafts and open air concerts (May - date to be confirmed)
Ferries between Turkey and Greece
Fethiye to Rhodes - There are crossings with the Dodecanese Flying Dolphins ferry sevice over to Rhodes available 7 times a week and the journey across the waters takes around 90 minutes.
Cesme to Chios - If you are staying in Cesme then why not take a trip over to Chios, which is the fifth largest Greek island. The journey takes 70 minutes and makes trips 3-4 times a day in peak season and 3 trips a week during the winter months. Chios is the perfect place to explore with its small Medieval villages, historic castles and fantastic local culture.

MONDAY: In the centre of Fethiye, running alongside the canal, Known as the big one, selling everything!
FRIDAY: This is to the back of the town and you will find more of the local farmer produce sold here.
MONDAY: Next to the main roundabout in the centre of the village, selling fresh food produce to household goods, jewelry and clothes.
THURSDAY:Right in the centre of the village and sells mostly fruit and veg with some household and clothes.
SATURDAY: This market is small but sells a bit of everything.

SUNDAY: Is located to the back of Calis, this market sells everything and also is very popular for selling the best pancakes.

The Fethiye Fountains
The best view of the fountains is just beside of the new town square. Where there is dance and music that highlights the area in lovely colours. To view these fountain shows are located around the the park.
If you are looking for day away from the beach hire a car and explore the Tios ruins fabulous views over the Xanthos Valley and a wee visit to Saklikent. This is worth the 50 minute trip from Fethiye to Tios.
